Case Study: Nationwide Jewelry Retailer
Project: Devising and delivering a post-restructure workshop to help managers deal with change and move forward.
Brief: To design and deliver a one-day workshop to re-engage managers and help them motivate their teams after a restructure and large redundancy programme. The workshop should help managers deal with and accept change to allow them to maximise productivity and operational efficiencies.
Approach: Calibre HR & Training director Tara Lloyd created an interactive workshop incorporating discussion and exercises. The workshop was designed to help managers reflect on their teams’ experiences and determine the best strategies for managing them. The practical content covered:
- Business objectives;
- What the business needs from its leaders;
- Help for managers;
- Recognising and dealing with survivor syndrome;
- The impact of change on performance;.
- Practical techniques for performance monitoring.
Outcome: More than 100 managers and directors attended the workshop over four weeks. All attendees said they learned a lot about themselves, as well as the impact on their teams of the recent changes. Critically, they said this insight meant they were better prepared to maximise their team’s performance and productivity.
In the months that followed, staff attrition among managers and teams was minimal. In addition, managers were proven to be better able to spot and intervene where behaviour could negatively impact on productivity and performance.
