Project: Re-structure and redundancy programme
Brief: To provide legal advice and guidance during a re-structure and redundancy programme for 75 staff over multiple sites.
Approach: Managers at the site were given the skills to negotiate with unions and follow a fair process of:
- Business case development
- Selection for redundancy
- Development of a competency framework
- Redundancy consultation
- Redundancy process
- Redundancy payments
In addition, letters of notification of potential redundancy were designed and issued and legal advice was given to ensure any dismissals on the grounds of redundancy were fair.
Outcome: There was a fair redundancy process with fair selection procedures. Some 50 redundancies were made with no appeals and no Employment Tribunal claims.
